It usually just depends on how long it takes you to leak through a tampon. They are designed that you can wear them for 4-5 hours, if you start bleeding with light tampons before 4 hours, try regular. Tell your mom that you'd like to try regular since you leak through light tampons and are nervous that you will ruin underwear or pants.

Well first what I would do is try a different brand of tampon. It may be leaking because it is a crappy brand. The best brand, and I have tried them all even off brands, is Kotex Security. http://www.kotex.com/NA/products/kot...-regular/15063

Note the worst tampon I ever used was Kotex U.

I find the above true. I consider myself to have a pretty medium flow period. Never in my life have I used light tampons and either did my daughter who is in college now. The first couple days of my period I use supers and the rest I could use regular and final days light.

So my advice is first try lights, diffent brands. Then if you have to change them or they leak or need to be changes earlier than 3-4 hours I would say try the regulars on your more heavy days and then you can go back to lights.

Just tell your mom you need to use regulars on more heavier days before you have an embarassing accident and then you will use the lights on lighter days of your period.
