I wear a hearing aid in this ear and I've had this infection for more then 5 years now. I've forgotten how I got it but my doctors never seem to pick it up unless I tell them but they don't prescribe me anything that works.
It started out as foul smelling, almost like a corpse smell then it disappeared but the skin would get irritated and then I scratch it, peeling all the skin off. Oh, it's mainly around the outside if the canal but sometimes I get really irritated in the ear canal.
Now it just "leaks" (pus I supposed...). I've tried to stop wearing my hearing aid but I rely on it a lot.
I'm sick of the smell, it came back again.
Truthfully, what I would do when I was at the dr's is stick my finger in my ear and say, here, smell this, as I stuck my finger up to his face. I bet it would get some antibiotics...
Although I've done it, no dr is going to suggest it.
Stop scratching it first of all that just makes the infection worse. Maybe try cleaning your ears, I do it every so often with hydrogen peroxide, put about 3 drops, or a capful, in your ear and leave it in for about a minute then tilt your head down into a towel so the HP can leave your ear. It won't hurt you to try. Try another doctor, nurse, etc. if you have issues with the diagnosis you hhave to tell them what you're feeling.
