Get a hotwater bottle on your stomach and relax, or take a pain killer.

hi, I am a Holistic Health Practitioner. The pain in the lumbar region (lower back) is due to the pressure of the menstrual flow. When you are having your period the lower back is the wall of the ovaries and thus the flow of blood put pressure on the muscles. I suggest a mild muscle relaxer, or, a mild pain reliever, or, warm heating pad. Stay off your feet as much as you can and raise your knees over a couch pillow. This should release the pressure of the flow. I have had this pain in me past and it will diminish only to return again next month. Hope this helps...Maureen

I've had this pain in the past as well and the best thing that would work for me was to take a pain reliever, such as midol, and use a heating pad. They have heating pads at the grocery store for this purpose. They are a bit pricy, $10-15 for three or four, but you can wear them while doing everyday tasks and they are not very noticeable unless you are wearing tight clothing. I would also suggest, if you haven't yet, to get on birth control. This was one of the reasons I started using it and it has given me a light flow and decreased pain so that I can tolerate it.

I know this might sound silly, but make yourself a hot water bottle and sit on it! That'll really help with the pain! I've done it many times and still do it! If you're not asthmatic or don't have any allergies to ibuprofen, I'd suggest ibuprofen, that really helps with water retention and swelling, otherwise I'd recommend cocodamol, but seek medical advice from either your Gp or pharmacist! Good luck and I hope I've helped!!
