It varies, depends on how imbalanced your chemicals are and your triggers. I have Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar 1 Disorder. Meds help SO much. It can last from a few days to weeks, month, & years!

The same amount of time it lasts if you do take meds, because they are placebos. It depends on what you do to help yourself, and what you do to get healthy.
It could be remedied quickly with the right help and action on your part.
eftuniverse.com click on'get started free, eftmasters.com is a method known to heal many emotional issues quickly.
Taking vitamin B12 , B complex, D3, magnesuim, and eating right, with exercise will help also.
A hormone check and balance helps also.

Medications do help with serious illness like bi polar, schizophrenia, mostly because they are suppressants fot those illnesses.
When they work for others it is primarily the placebo effect , which can be very powerful, but is not the medicationsthemselves.
The whole 'chemical imbalances ' thing is something of a hoax that has been debunked, it was to selldrugs.

It depends on if you are depressed about a current situation and unpleasant events or depressed in general over "everything".
If your depression is not "situational", then it will continue until you make an effort to treat it in some way...this may include therapy and/or medication.
