I pounded my fist on marble. Cannot shake hands or pick up heavy items for 1 month now. Not broken. What then?

X-ray shows no broken bones. Pounded my fist hard on marble table during Saints v. 49ers playoff game in January. It still hurts so badly, that it wakes me up at night. The orthopedic doctor gave me a splint, but I cannot stand the pain when wrapped or squeezed. Fingers nor wrist hurt to move, but palm of hand excruciating when center of hand is compressed or bent. Hurts to touch thumb to pinky finger. What did I foolishly do? How can I help it heal?

Nerve damage maybe? I did something similar a while back and my hand swelled up for a while, but I don't think it lasted a month...I think I just bruised it pretty badly; nothing was broken in it though. Have you tried heat or ice therapy?
