If you Control your diabetes and watch it really close at the time you try to conceive there should be a better chance he'll be ok. My uncle has diabetes and he got it under control and everything before he conceived my aunt, now there son is 1yo and is perfectly healthy . My sister also has diabetes she did the same thing now her 9mnt old baby is also healthy

^^is right the doctors told them that if they had a baby they probably would be born diabetic

That "one doctor", my friend, is either a total idiot or doesn't know as much as s/he thinks they know.

The chances of your baby having any physical deformity are extremely low. In fact, there MAY have been a higher risk of physical deformity if your wife had diabetes and wasn't controlling her blood sugar (glucose) levels during the pregnancy.

There IS a slightly increased risk of your child developing diabetes at some point during his/her life.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for more than 30 years now and I have two grown up (adult) sons that were both conceived after I developed diabetes, and neither of them have any physical ... or mental ... deformity, plus my wife developed gestational diabetes during the second of those pregnancies.

I wish you well, my friend, and I hope you have beautiful children.

There's a chance of some inherited factors but a child is a different person. Just as the child won't look exactly like you, it may not have the same health problems that you have. If you're concerned, talk to your Doctor but diabetes is no reason not to have children.

Note that the whole idea of sex with another person is to introduce some randomness to the genetics so it's a little like buying a new lottery ticket. As long as you're having sex with someone else to have a child then the child won't be exactly like you.

The doctor is an idiot. There is only a slight increase in risk of your child developing diabetes.
Diabetics do not have deformed babies. Make sure your wife gets plenty of folic acid and enjoy planning your family.
