Could my 15 year old daughter be diabetic even though she's not overweight?

So I was looking up the symptoms in adolescent the symptoms that my daughter has are the following:
~She's constantly thirsty and hungry but the thing is she's home schooled and barley gets out of the house and doesn't due sports so there's nothing that should really be making her thirsty or hungry all the time no matter how much she eats she never really gets full.
~Also when ever she eats she gets these sharp pains in her stomach and feels like she's going to be sick for a couple hours after
~I think she's lost weight even though she eats all the time
~She seems to have almost a constant yeast infection
~It seems like lately cuts and bruises have been taking a lot longer than normal to heal
~She is rather irritable/short tempered a lot (more than she used to be but I know that's also partly a teenage thing)
~She is practically constipated all the time
~She can't sit down or lay down for more than ten minutes and then get up with out getting extremely extremelyurry vision
~And she has really irregular periods and sometimes even misses hers for a month or two
~Finally she is always tiered even if she sleeps for a long time or takes a nap
So I'm just rather worried but I have to wait a week or two before our insurance comes in so I can take her to the doctors, but I didn't want to really bring it up to the doctor so I don't seem like an overly paranoid thanks.

Even if it's not diabetes, you should still take her to the doctors.
I don't think you're just being paranoid, it sounds like your daughter does have some sort of illness.

Also, you don't have to be overweight to be diabetic!
    There's type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 is the type you can develop from being overweight, and it mostly happens in adults, but for type 1 diabetes you don't have to be overweight at all, and it can happen even at very young ages.

I'd definitely take her to the doctor when you can afford to, because you'd rather be safe than sorry.

You can get diabetes at any age, no matter how much you weigh, or how much you train.
There are 12 year olds getting Diabetes type 2, the form of diabetes that occurs the most in elderly people.
There are 30 year olds getting type 1, even though this usually occurs whilst the child is still young.

Diabetes can strike anyone, no matter how fit, how old, or healthy they might be.
You should take her to the doctor, as soon as possible. Having a really high bloodsugar can cause her to go into Ketosis, this is why she's loosing weight aswell.

Having a too high bloodsugar can also cause this type of 'acid' to build up in her body, which will leave her very ill.

Firstly, don't panic because lot's of people are diabetic and live long and healthy lives. For sure you need to bring your daughter to the doctor at least for a check up just to make sure eveything is okay, even if it is nothing. She does have a lot of the symptoms though! You DO NOT have to be overweight to be diabetic. Type 1 diabetes has absolutely nothing to do with weight or diet, it is when the pancreas stops making insulin (which controls sugar levels) for unknown reasons. You cannot cause Type 1 diabetes, it just happens and you cannot prevent it. Type 2 however is caused by diet and more common in overweight people but Type 2 is less common and a lot easier to treat and sometimes reversible. You should bring your daughter to get checked just in case, but remember, it could be nothing at all, it's better to be safe than sorry though.

I wish you the best of luck and everything will be fine, my two friends have typw 1 and they live normal healthy lives!
    God bless, hope I helped.

yes it sounds like type I diabetes - a type of diabetes you are born with, not the kind you get from being overweight. please take her to the doctor as soon as possible. and please dont worry about "seeming paranoid". paranoid parents make sure their children are healthy. (i dunno if you have heard but there is a news story right now about how a child had cancer, and the parents never took the kid to the doctor cuz no insurance, kid died, both parents now serving 8 years in prison for neglect) you should never have to worry that the doctor is going to judge you... always better be safe than sorry. your daughters symptoms sound pretty severe... please see a doctor asap. if your daughter breaks out in a sweat for no reason, seems overly nervous, irritable, or seems overly lethargic and sleepy, and if her breath begins to smell fruit or smells like acetone - you need to go to the emergency room. good luck! diabetes is manageable, and complications can easily be prevented by following the doctors instructions on maintaining glucose levels.

It's despicable how people just assume diabetics are overweight. Most of the diabetics that I've met have been skinny. Fat cells contribute to insulin resistance so there's a concern that the increasing obesity in society will mean more diabetes and hence the media and the public focuses on weight but that doesn't mean diabetics are overweight.

It's good that you looked up the symptoms, perhaps you now realize how little you know about diabetes and how much of what you know are just myths and prejudices.

As to your daughter, diabetes is really easy to test for, you don't need to bring it up with the Doctor, just mention the symptoms you've observed as you've listed above. The thirst, hunger, stomach pains after eating, weight loss, yeast infection, slow healing, personality changes, constipation, blurry vision, irregular periods, and being tired. Your Doctor can then decide what to test for.

It's horrible that you have to put insurance ahead of your child's life but that's America. You could get yourself a free glucose meter and if the glucose is off the charts then you know you have a problem that should be addressed regardless of insurance.

Yes, she could be diabetic even though she's not overweight. Generally, people with type 1 are not overweight, and not all type 2's are overweight. So weight is not an issue.
Diabetes does not cause stomach pain or constipation. Most teens her age eat a lot.
Undiagnosed diabetes causes lots of nausea and vomiting and frequent urination. It's not a subtle thing. It is worth having the blood test just for peace of mind, but I doubt that she has diabetes. Most of what you describe sounds like a typical teenager.
