I have had these brief episodes of an altered level of awareness that usually lasts anywhere from 10-120 seconds. IT can happen 3 times a day, and then not happen for three days, there's no pattern. I had a brain tumor when I was 4 (I'm 13 now) and had been going in for regular MRIs to make sure nothing else was coming back. After a while, they said I didn't need them anymore. A year or so after that, I started having these episodes. I just went in to get an EEG done, results were fine. I got a MRI yesterday, and should get the results tomorow. But what could be wrong? Is it a seizure or what? Do you know of any illness/disease that could cause this symptom?
I had most of it removed surgically.
Did you have any radiation?
I have a feeling it was all resected or you probably wouldn't be on this earth to ask this question. It must have been benign also. If you had even a speck of that tumor not removed, your dr would have never told you that you didn't need any more scans and before 9 years, it would've already started growing again. Damage from radiation is progressive, that's why I asked if you had radiation
April is right, radiation damage is progressive, I had radiation almost 14 years ago and the damage from all of it is STILL causing more and new problems. Radiation kind of melts your insides and turns some of it to scar(abnormal) tissue. Scar tissue in the brain could easily cause some neuro-sensory issues. I hope you feel better and that the MRI is 100% clear. Your mom and dad will be able to ask the doctor when you go in, if there is any type of medication that they can give you to help get rid of the altered awareness problems. There are many different meds available and it is just a matter of trying them out. Also, another big factor is that you are just entering a huge growth spurt and this may make some of your symptoms worse (or better) until your hormones slow down in a few years. Sometimes kids completely out-grow all of the symptoms and turn out all better in their later teens. You just need to be patient and trust your parents and doctors and know that they are all doing their best to see you get through this. Get well soon![]()
