Hi im a 16 year old girl anf i was wondering does anyone here have lumps down the side of their windpipes? i have on the left hand side if i press quite hard and like one on the right. i dont know if im pressing it so im feeling the side of my windpipe or if they are lymph nodes but part of me is screaming cancer as they dont move. ive had them for ages now and my mum said that it wont be anything and i shouldnt be pressing them in the 1st place so i was wondering if anyone on here has lumps down the side? and now im worried about weather or not having an ache in throat is connected even though i know that it probably isnt as i get it when im stressed and i harly ever get an ache in throat. they also havent got any bigger but im worried thanks.
Looks like you've found your thyroid, or maybe even hypothyroid glands. Everyone has these.
I've got swollen lymph nodes on the sides of my neck, and if I press hard I can feel some half way down my windpipe also. Im 15, male.
I discovered them last October and I got a blood test in December. It came back clear.
I was very worried and thought it could be cancerous or maybe i'd gotten some disease.
They can ache after doing many crunches, but they dont hurt at all when I touch/gently squeeze them.
I've got no other symptoms.
My mum is going through cancer at the moment (diagnosed in september/october) - around the time I discovered my lymph nodes.
So I think it may be related to stress as i havn't got a fever, night sweats, fatigue, aching around the body, joint problems, sore throat, but I have a runny nose, but who hasn't at these times.
Honestly, i'd get a blood test just to be sure. It's highly possible it won't be anything and just stress or maybe they're overactive and a test is unnecessary, but I got one for safety, as you should too. It's free and quick, why not? results come back within a weak, you might as well be safe and check.
I've heard, when i discovered mine, that some people have had swollen lymph nodes for months/years and are completely fine, as I am, so I shouldn't worry.
I've stopped stressing as, with 4-5 months gone, any other symptoms would have appeared by now and i'd know about it.

Your trachea (the windpipe) is made up of cartilaginous rings to keep it from collapsing on itself. In fact (an interesting side note), you can actually move your trachea side to side with your hand. So yes, they should feel lumpy to an extent, but if you're still concerned then I suggest contacting your doctor.
Hope this helps!
